Laptop Ibm Thinkpad R32 2658 - Half Right Screen Dead - DIY Fix!

Last week at work we were giving for recycle our old hardware dated back from 2003.I found an old
Ibm Thinkpad R32 type 2658 fully functional but with its half screen acting weird.

I noticed that when i add some pressure at the point that you see in above screen shot everything was working fine.So lets rescue this grandpa!!!
You can find at internet exact details why this is happening. There is a circuit up there which is hold with tape usually ,or other things, and after some time wears off.Enough data for me to try a fix.

WARNING: I do not recommend to try this fix at your new ultrabook :) but if you have an old laptop
or hardware not that expensive or want to save some money or to get an idea, this is what i did.

Mats:
  • A screwdriver
  • Paper (newspapper to be exactly lol )
  • Tape
  • Scissor
First detect the screws that you need to remove screens border.Check and double check as these bastards some times are really good at hiding. After checking search also at net if someone has posted a video of disassembling your laptop to see if you miss anything.

In my case was pretty easy, four screws easy to spot.

Unscrew and keep them safe.

Now start removing the frame with a lot of care and patience, you do not want to brake these little hooks.

Now i had access behind the screen.

First i added some paper enough to push the screen from behind and still be able to screw her back.

Used some tape to hold paper together and using two rolled tapes to stick this paper pillow to the back of laptop.

Damn looking so ugly and Frankenstein!!!
At this point i put monitor back and opened laptop to test results, the problem was semi fixed and screen was still unstable so i decided to add more press to the screen using two little paper pillows but this time from the top.

I added the paper pillow to the frame not the screen.
After this the problem was fixed at 99,9% making this laptop usable.

Installed Lubuntu and decided to post the tutorial using it!

Hooked up a wirereless card and here you go!!!
